Radiator thermostat not working properly

Question

One of our radiators seems to have stopped regulating temperature. The radiator gets fully hot even when the valve is turned right down. What is going on here?

Its possible that the pin has got stuck, the head is loose or is damaged internally. Try tightening the ring/nut, if not loose then undo it and remove the head then check the pin, see if it pushes down freely if it does then look inside the head and see if anything has snapped in there. Failing that it'll be  new TRV required.

Valve is not there to regulate temperature, it controls the flow of water. Less the water goes inside, less it gets heated

If the issue is just on one radiator its likely to be the thermostatic radiator valve on the radiator

Check the trv the pin might be stuck. Try wd40 to free it

Take head off and in middle of valve is a pin sticking out and see if you can push it down if it does check the head where it screws on where the pin would hit it and turn the valve round while holding the bottom and see if the sleeve inside goes up and down if you don’t head is no good needs to be replaced depending on what to make of valves

Could be a broken or stock pin, possibly a broken thermostat which will require replacement.

If the radiator is getting fully hot even when the thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is turned down, the most common cause is a stuck valve pin or a failed thermostat head. The TRV works by restricting the flow of hot water through the radiator, so if the pin is stuck open, the radiator will continue to heat regardless of the setting.
 If it's stuck, it may be possible to free it off, but if the thermostat head or valve has failed internally, replacement is often the best solution.

Your radiator is basically ignoring the TRV (thermostatic radiator valve). When a radiator stays fully hot even with the valve turned down, it almost always means the pin inside the valve body is stuck open.
