"The main disadvantage of oil-based paint is the strong odour, which is quite invasive, and the paint does take significantly longer to dry, so care is required with any dusty work, and ensuring that nothing is likely to make contact with the wet surface

"Good question! These are some of the things that came to my mind:

Pro: usually leaves a better finish.
( in my experience)

Con: it dries slower than waterbased paint.

Pro: It covers well and usually you don't need to apply too many coats.

Con: the odour of the paint is strong and after applying it you have to look out for drips to brush off."

"Well basically having a undercoat number one the paint won't fade as fast as not having undercoat
And also stop the paint from displatement
And from paint running"

"Some high end paints like valspar, dearest one, (i cant put the name in as they think im typing a postcode). have primer included so your not buying 2 products and putting loads of coats on, that will look fab in 2 coats,
Johnstones also have a similar range which is lovely and both can be mixed to any colour"

"Cons of oil primer is they do have more of a smell, they can yellow after a while and they cab be messy
Pros they have a better finish( particularly if you plan to have your tip coat oil based) they are more hard wearing and coverage is generally better"
