"Hello, the wood gets wet from the rain and over the years it changes, the steel shrinks instead so long as it is painted it does not rust and I consider it to be longer"

"Metal gate will be very strong and will never change its shape unlike timber. Timber infill will give it a good look - so I would say it is a good choice.
Bear in mind that metal get rusty. Please use powder coating or good metal paint."

"Having made and fitted these types of gates I can say they are worthwhile as long as the steel is coated properly they can last for years they can be very secure with a good thickness of wood and as long as the wood is varnished it'll hold out the only con I can think of is really the wood and that's because it's softer than steel. Hope this helps you"
