Do I start painting a room from the top or the bottom? What's the professional way to do it?

"Cut your ceiling in first then while waiting undercoat skirting boards
Go back and roll ceiling then cut walls in twice and roll
Check undercoat if ok then gloss"

"The ceiling should always be painted first. This allows you to effectively cover the surface with at least two coats while not having to worry about any over-spray"

"The best to do is to start with the celying and you go down with the walls"

"You start from the ceiling if it’s to be painted,
Then the walls if they are going to be painted finishing with the woodwork."

"Always cut in from top all the way round then corners and cut in all around the bottom"

"Always start at the top. Ceilings first, then walls and woodwork. As a professional I have a system that works for me. You start with ceilings and top to bottom that way if you get any drops on the lower half you can roll it out as it’s not finished"

"Traditionally, yes people paint top to bottom.
Some people these days paint ceilings then wood work. Then run tape across skirtings before painting the walls. ( not because the painter can’t cut in, but to protect the finished skirtings from spatter when rolling the wall. And it the painter can’t cut in then it’s also a better finish)"
