Neighbours builder damaged my property

I gave permission for a scaffolding pole to rest briefly on our side and the contractor ended up damaging our fence. Who's responsible for sorting the repair?

"If the fence was damaged by the contractor or scaffolding company during the works, they should be responsible for putting it right. Permission to rest the scaffold on your side does not normally transfer liability for accidental damage. The first step would be to notify both the contractor and your neighbour, provide photographs of the damage, and request that the repair is arranged through the contractor or their insurance if necessary."
