Moving House Quotes

I am moving soon, only 15 miles away and need someone to help for the heavier items/furniture etc as we can move smaller boxes etc on our own. How do I get a quote when the time comes?

"For a short house move in the UK (around 15 miles), where you only need help with heavy furniture using a man and van service, typical costs are:

Low end (small load, simple access): £120 – £180

Average (van + 2 people for 2–4 hours): £180 – £300

More complex moves (stairs, heavy furniture, longer loading time): up to £350

These prices usually cover labour and transport only.
The main cost factor is the time required and number of movers, rather than the distance itself."

"More than likely they will set a price on time taken , and also how much of the van would be used ."

"Just phone up a company and ask if they can do you a fixed price for the day."

"We regularly help with part moves and heavy items only, so this would be no problem at all. To provide a quick and accurate quote when the time comes, we’d just need:

Pickup & drop-off postcodes (15 miles is ideal)

A list or photos of the heavier items (sofas, beds, wardrobes, appliances)

Property access details (floors, stairs, parking)

Preferred date and time

Pricing guide:
• £60–£70 per hour (van + 1 mover)
• £90–£110 per hour (van + 2 movers)
Most part moves take around 2–4 hours, and we always confirm a fixed price upfront once details are clear."

"For a short-distance move like yours (15 miles), many removal companies offer part-move or labour-only services, which sounds ideal if you’re planning to move the smaller items yourselves.

To get a quote, you can:
1. Contact local removal companies directly – Provide details such as:
• Moving date (or approximate timeframe)
• Both postcodes
• List of larger items (sofas, beds, wardrobes, appliances, etc.)
• Access details (stairs, lifts, parking restrictions)
2. Request a video or home survey – Some companies will carry out a quick video survey to assess the volume and confirm vehicle size and manpower required.
3. Ask for a clear breakdown – Check whether the quote includes:
• Number of movers
• Vehicle size
• Insurance cover
• Hourly rate vs fixed price

Since you’re only moving heavier items, pricing may be based on an hourly rate (e.g. 2–3 movers with a Luton van) rather than a full house removal package.

It’s advisable to obtain 2–3 quotes and confirm availability at least a few weeks in advance, particularly during busy periods."
