"From the popular metals I would say Stainless Steel. Type 304 is used for food production. 316 can be used outside, even near the sea - it doesn't get rusty."

"Depending on the use of the product but indoors powder coated mild steel can be good and is the cheaper alternative to aluminium or stainless steel. Outdoors if gates/railings/decorative bridges, for example, these can be mild steel ideally galvanised but good powder coating can be effective however pre-galvanised steel or Corten steel if you want the rustic effect."
