"Uunderlays are not necessary for most vinyl floors. A well-cushioned vinyl floor should work fine on its own if the surface is level and smooth. The most important factor when laying vinyl flooring is ensuring your subfloor is smooth, clean, dry, and sound enough for your vinyl to lay on top"

"If it was me I would purchase a good quality vinyl and also add underlay to help keep the heat from escaping and also comfort on your feet"

"Most vinyl underlayments are 1mm to 1.5mm thick. When dealing with a click lock vinyl of 4mm or thicker, an underlayment has several benefits: It can help smooth over minor subfloor imperfections. It will add extra cushion to the floor, creating a softer feel under foot."

"You don't need underlay for vinyl, a cushioned backing on the vinyl is what you would need"
