Is uPVC window hinge replacement a cheap fix?

One of our windows has started dropping and catching when you open it, and someone mentioned the hinges might be worn. I’m just trying to get a rough idea of what this will cost and whether I should give it a go myself

"Hi yes they can be changed. I’m not so sure you could do it yourself but entirely up to you. They are cheap to change."

"Yes the window has either field due to the friction stay hinges, or the lock mechanism is faulty
A repair I would estimate a
Cost of approx £90 if your in the local area.

Thankyou."

"Hi,
We replace hinges for £70 in our area. If the sash is quite large then it could need the glass toe and healed.

Many Thanks
Rob"

"Yes very easy to change and quite and easy diy project on the ground floor windows a little more difficult on upper floors the windows units can be quite heavy so caution is advised"

"Wouldn’t advise doing it yourself as can be a little tricky but it is rather cheap as to replacing the window, price wise always depends on window size but anywhere between £40+"

"Yes, it is far more cost effective than replacing a whole frame."

"Hi Lauren

There are a couple of reasons why the opener will have dropped.

If the window is a top opening window, then it may need new hinges or adjustment. Should the window be side opening, the the glass will more than likely need to be removed in order to pack the glass correctly (toe & heel). This is a common problem on side opening windows.

I would not recommend changing hinges or packing the glass if you have not done this before."

"Yes it's a really simple job depending on the window is dependant on the hinge what I would recommend is doing both at the same time so the other doesn't fail as generally if one fails the other one will eventually"
