"There is no such thing as a minimum charge. What there may be, and often is an inspection charge to come to view the job to get a good idea of what is involved. Some trades do this, some don’t. You will also get 2 kinds of quotes: 1) a price for the whole job with the proviso of unseen issues or 2) a day rate per workman with the materials purchased by the client."

"Hi so in answer to your question there is no minimum charge so long as the job is profitable to do. So by that I mean if you only needed say half an hours work doing then the contractor would have to charge you for travel costs otherwise they would be doing the work for nothing, in fact losing money. I trust that answers your question"

"I don't believe a universal rule exists.
I charge a daily/weekly rate regardless of the skillset required.
Painting/decorating
Fencing
Decking
Laying laminate flooring
Laying attic boards
Property maintenance
General handyman"
