How to remove wallpaper glue from walls

We've stripped all the wallpaper but there's a sticky residue left on the walls. The paint won't go on smoothly over it. What's the best way to get rid of the old paste?

"Mix warm water with washing-up liquid in a bucket.
2. Sponge the wall generously and let it soak for 5–10 minutes.
3. Scrub the wall with a sponge or soft brush to loosen the glue.
4. Wipe clean with fresh water."

"Hi, the best way is to soak the walls with warm water using a sponge to soften the old wallpaper paste, then gently scrape off the residue with a filling knife or scraper. You may need to repeat the process a couple of times. Once the walls are clean, allow them to dry fully before painting."

"You remove the residue by washing it with a sponge until the stickiness has gone. You can use just water or add washing up liquid."

"Hi there, put down a dust sheet along the bottom of the wall. Mix a sugar soap solution in hot water, coat the wall using a sponge or spray, let it stand for 5 minutes until the glue becomes tacky, use a wide scraper to remove the paste dont gouge too deeply into the wall, repeat if required, then allow to dry and give the surface a light sand, your good to go."
