How to remove paint from skirting boards

I want to strip the skirting boards back to bare wood before repainting. What's the most effective method? There are several layers of old gloss on them.

"Hi dont bother wasting your money on paint stripper, the best way is heat gun and a scrapper & sandpaper, just try not to dig into the wood otherwise you'll have alot of filling to do. Hope this helps 😊"

"If they’ve got years of gloss built up, the quickest clean result is usually a mix of heat + scraping + sanding rather than trying to sand everything off from the start. Pure sanding on thick gloss is miserable and clogs paper fast."

"Hi, to remove paint from skirting boards, use liquid paint remover or burn of using hot air gun. I hope this information helps.

"Hi Mike,

Tape the above/under floor and walls, hire a Mirka sander with dust extraction and invest in a decent mask as pre 1990’s gloss will almost definitely have lead in the paint and sand away, it will be a breeze with the Mirka!

Use a high grit pad first (80) followed by a fine grit to smooth (320)

"Use sand paper to rub the paint off. Can be purchased from Screwfix or Toolstation. Very inexpensive and effective. Hope this helps."

"Either you can get some paint remover it’s like an acid leave on to bubble up and scrape off or if you’re careful a blow torch or a heat gun to melt it"

"You can use a laquer peel or even a paint thinner. Depending how thick it is on could even use a little bit of white spirit"

"Removing paint from woodwork can be done by sanding with a sanding machine & sanding paper or hand held sanding paper. from grade 80 down to grade 180 for a smooth serface."
