How to professionally mount a TV on a wall

What's the best way to secure a TV on a wall? We live in a new build, so we're assuming there's blockwork behind the plasterboard. How would a professional installer make sure it's securely fastened?

"For starters, I can assure you there is no blockwork behind the plasterboard, having worked on hundreds of new builds over the past couple of years.
The easiest remedy for this is to purchase Plasterboard toggle fixings, they are the only way of getting a decent fixing on Plasterboard for a TV wall Mount.
Given that most modern TVs are very light these days these little fixings are a Godsend."

"If its a plasterboard wall you will need to find the wall studs they normally are set at 300mm apart. There is a stud finder on the market that can help you find where the studs are or any pipe work etc in a wall."

"Hi

Every wall of different, there until you drill the initial hole you do not know exactly what you will find behind the plasterboard, or what the gap is before you can get a secure fixing. There drill small diameter pilot holes slowly and one at a time to that you can establish what you are working with in each of the hole positions. Then you should be able to work out the best fixing types (wall plugs, anchors etc) that you need to purchase.

However if the above is not something that you have done before, it would be worth you hiring a professional and asking if you can sit and watch how they do it, and then you will be prepared for the next time/challenge."

"Hi, if you want the TV only a few millimetres or a fraction of an inch away from the wall you’re going to have to get a bracket that actually sits close to the wall when installed. Some brackets sit a mile away, especially some of the cheaper types. I would advise getting a fixed wall bracket for the task as with most movable brackets like tilting and full motion wall brackets the mechanism that allows the bracket to move is often what stands it away from the wall."
