How to prep walls for painting after removing wallpaper

I have stripped the wallpaper and the walls are quite rough in places with some torn facing paper. What do we need to do before the painter can start?

"First, we use the steam machine to remove the remaining wallpaper, and then we fill any part of the wall with filler and document it."

"It all depends on the surface. I'd stay away from steam strippers they can blow the plaster on your walls. Make sure top paper is off, then wet with warm water and washing up liquid. Onece that's done rather than filling little cracks you want to line paper or skim over"

"Before painting the walls they’ll need preparing sealing, filling, sanding, and priming before painting. If the damage is quite bad, they may need a skim coat of plaster for a smooth finish otherwise simple filling will be fine"

"Either bond the torn areas back and over fill with a light filler or remover the lining paper, if the walls are bad then it will require re lining or skimming"

"After removing wallpaper the key is getting the wall clean, smooth and sealed before paint goes on. Run your hand over the wall feel for the rough areas. We can use warm water and a sponge with mild washing up liquid there are also specialised wallpaper adhesives you can purchase for those stubborn areas also use scraper or a putty knife (softly), soak the rough areas and leave for couple of minutes or 3 and then use the scraper and sponge and carry on until the areas are smooth"
