How often should you oil decking?

I've had composite decking for a couple of years and I'm not sure if it needs oiling at all. Is annual oiling necessary or is that only for timber decking?

"Composite decking definitely does not need oiling, it would possibly damage the boards. Oiling every year or two is a good idea for timber or hardwood decking."

"Don’t need to put oil on composite only on wood and if it’s wood framework with access but not composite,if you ask a supplier of composite decking (Travis Perkins or a well known supplier that’s local to you they will tell you how to look after the composite decking
Good luck 👍"

"Composite decking doesn’t need oiling at all, that’s only really for timber decking. Composite boards are made to be low maintenance so you don’t stain, oil or seal them each year like you would with wood. Best thing is just keep on top of cleaning it, wash it down with soapy water or a composite cleaner now and again, and give it a light pressure wash if it gets dirty or slippery, but nothing heavy. If you start putting oil on composite it won’t soak in properly and can leave it patchy or slippery, so in short timber decking needs treating yearly, composite just needs keeping clean and that’s it."

"Decks typically need oiling every 6 to 12 months. However, the exact frequency depends on exposure and the wood type. A fully exposed deck might require maintenance twice a year (spring and autumn), while a covered deck can go 1 to 2 years"
