How much to remove asbestos garage roof and replace?

Is removing an asbestos garage roof and replacing it likely to be expensive? Looking at quotes on forums and getting all sorts of figures. I’m just trying to understand what a typical bill might look like for a single garage here in the UK before booking anyone. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

"Hi typically everything is done by square meter age due to you having a asbestos roof it will be hard to keep the price on the cheaper side of things as it has to be taken on very carefully wearing suits and masks and double wrapping and disposing of properly then it all depends what material you would want to put back on there is a 3 layer felt system (the best one) or a rubber roof or a GRP roof u will need 18mm osb board to make a stable floor with the correct water run of also are the rafters good there is a lot that goes into a roof hope this helps"

"For a typical single garage in the UK, removing an asbestos cement roof and replacing it will usually cost somewhere between £1,200 and £2,500 depending on a few factors.

Most older garages use corrugated asbestos cement sheets, which can be removed by trained contractors and must be disposed of at a licensed waste facility.

A rough breakdown would normally be:

Asbestos removal and disposal:
Typically £400 – £900 depending on roof size and access.

Replacement roof installation:
Usually £700 – £1,600 depending on the material used.

Common replacement options include:
• Fibre cement sheets – most cost-effective option
• Box profile metal sheets – stronger and longer lasting
• OSB deck with EPDM rubber roof – more durable but higher cost

For a standard single garage (around 15–20m²) most homeowners tend to pay around £1,400 – £1,900 all in for removal and replacement with a new sheeted roof.

Costs can increase if:
• The roof structure or timbers need replacing
• Access is difficult
• The garage is larger than standard

One important thing to check is that the contractor includes asbestos disposal and provides a waste transfer note, confirming it has been taken to a licensed facility.

Hope that helps give you a realistic idea of the typical price range.

"u can always over board the roof with osb and not damage the old roof and felt back on the boards, inside build a suspended frame and plaster boards, if u dont break up and asbestos there is no dust"
