How much to install an outside light?

I've bought a couple of wall lights for the front of the house. Roughly what would an electrician charge to wire them in? Guessing this is a pretty quick job so shouldn't be much

Hi, it sounds like you’re expecting this to be a fairly quick  job. If it’s simply a case of replacing an existing fitting, I’d estimate around £100.

You mentioned a couple of lights how many lights are you actually looking to have replaced or (installed)?

I’d recommend describing the job as accurately and specifically as possible when posting it if possible including pictures. That way, electricians can understand exactly what’s involved and provide you with a more accurate quote.

Hi Kelly, for two new outside wall lights, the cost would usually be around £180–£300, provided there is a suitable power supply nearby and access is straightforward. If new cabling, switches or difficult access are required, the price may be higher. Photos of the locations and the nearest power source would help me provide a fixed quote.

Installation costs will difer dependant on your location in the country and complexity of the install. You state a 'preety quick job' however have you considered where the electrician can take a suitable suppy from and in turn how said light will be switched? Any electrician worth employing will have insurance, registration fees, calibration costs etc etc so will have to allow for these in both their hourly rate and call out charge. I would expect a typical outside light install to be somewhere in the region of £85 to £300 plus VAT.

Always is probably a quick easy job which us  sparks can literally do whilst having a brew, chat and few biscuits before skipping off down to the nearest flower arranging class.... no worries ....

How high are they to be?  Working at heights... any legal issues? Such as objections to light polution or unsightly designs?

Get a few quotes from respectable honest legit electricians first , think about them and try not to just jump at cheapest ... doesnt always finish satisfactory ...    try looking and quizzing candidates on

If your light is like for like then expect to pay around the £70, if the light is a completely different light then expect to pay more.
