How many electrical points does a kitchen need?

We're planning out a small kitchen extension but I'm not sure how many electrical points are needed in a kitchen to ensure we have enough. Any advice or tips on this please?

"Simple answer is .. you can have as many as you like. However , no sockets or switches are allowed within 300mm of a sink or a gas or electric hob."

"Generally, you need 3-4 sockets, one point for the cooker, then you need spares for ignition, washing machine, fridge, and cooker hood. Each spur has its load, that's means one spur=2 points. also, 3 points for the kitchen fan( fan and fan boost+load), additional you can add points for freeze and tumble drier(depends on your wishes).so in total 3(sockets)+1(cooker)+4(spures)+4(loads)+3(fan)=15 minimum, 19 maximum"

"HI Duncan,

Almost as many as you like !! Allow a socket for each appliance under the counter - these should be on their own circuit - Appliance ring. Your fridge / freezer can be on this circuit too.

Allow sockets for your kettle and toaster etc - these will be on your 'kitchen ring'.

Your oven and hob may need their own circuit plus instantaneous water heaters / Zips taps may also need their own circuit.

Whoever is carrying out the electrical work should be providing you with a design for your consideration."

"Just think ahead.
Can never have enough sockets in my opinion.

At least 8 I’d say."

"Try to count your electrical appliances you will use above the worktop and have provision for every each of them and add another 2 x double socket. That should be enough"

"Depends on the quantity and size of the kitchen. Rule of thumb would be 4 x twin outlets but it’s down to your requirements Duncan"

"Hi
The best thing to do is make a rough drawing of your new kitchen and visualise where things that you plug in are going to go"

"As many as you need... moor is better you can't have too many sockets in the kitchen depending on the size of your kitchen"
