"1 coat of primer is fine on bare wood. You may have to spot prime the knots before you apply a quick dry primer."

"Idaeally for bare wood, it should be a 4 coat paint system: 1 primer, 2 undercots an 1 gloss or 2 undercoatand 2 gloss especially if its external."

"Depends on the condition of the wood. If it's bare knots will need to be sealed with Knotting followed by a coat of primer, then 1 undercoat and 2 top coats.
If previously painted and the paints is in good condition just a light sand 1 coat primer then followed by topcoats.
If it's flaking or old yellow gloss then any loose flakey will need to be removed and a coat of adhesion primer is to be used or oil based undercoat to seal the the old paint to allow for the preparation and additional coats to adhere.
If it's pre-primed MDF then no need for primer unless filling which spot prime is usually enough where needed then you can just use a undercoat followed by top coats."

"It depends on the shade of the wood previously painted or not.

If newly fitted woodwork, or if it's dark painted woodwork then I would recommend one coat of undercoad n one or two coats of gloss or Satinwood.

And if the woodwork is previously painted in white then you could apply one coat of undercoat and one coat of topcoat or can just apply one coat of Dulux Once paint"
