How long is underpinning guarantee for?

We’ve been told the house was underpinned years ago, but I’ve no idea what sort of guarantee normally comes with that or how long it should be for?

If it was done properly then it should be guaranteed indefinitely, I would request the structural engineers drawings to clarify.

Underpinning should last around 50+ years give or take.

contact your local council building  control they will have a record of when the works were carried out  the repairs are permanent  hope this helps regards

Local Authority Building Control should have all relevant documentation regarding historical underpinning to your home.
They would be my first port of call.

A written guarantee is not always provided by the contractor. If there is a guarantee, it should state the guarantee period.

Generally there is an engineer or loss adjuster who have prepared the design for whoever does the underpinning.  The law is complex. However in the event of a failure within 7 years, the designer/underpinning contractor are likely to have liability.

It’s supposed to last the lifetime of the building, 50+ years if installed correctly
