we get power cuts most winters out here in rural Lincolnshire. What would a decent backup generator for the house cost installed? Want to get it sorted before it gets cold again

I Know of old generators not thoroughly but I know antique ones are very valuable and probably will hold value so it may be worth an older model that has been tested and inspected, signed off and installed by an electrician, so it can appreciate in value. Definitely a good idea from my experience.

"Budget around £2000 for a generator as it needs to be wired in correctly to function safely. There are lots of videos online showing people using male-to-male extension cords commonly known as a "suicide plugs" or "suicide cords"—to backfeed power into the house. This is highly dangerous and should not be attempted. Correct wiring ensures safe operation of the generation equipment. However as others have said, solar PV and batteries may be an option to consider."
