"Hi, it comes down to, 2no points,

Size of cable already installed,

Size of rcd breaker in your fuse board,

Once these have been identified, you can calculate the Size of shower you are allowed, before your electrical fuse trips ,

So I would recommend the tradesman get it, plus he will get it cheaper

Cheers

Mark"

"What about the electric chair in the bath?
It’s comfortable but shocking.
Just an evening joke.
I say: it’s more funny to laugh of materia than other people."

"It depends whether the tradesman is VAT registered or not, if not, the tradesman will be quite happy for you to buy the shower yourself to keep his turnover lower.
If it is a new installation, with no existing cable, the cable fitted should be 10mm² which is ok for any electric shower that I have seen.
It then depends whether there is spare capacity on your consumer unit (fuse board) for a suitable circuit breaker to be fitted.

These days, it is unlikely that the tradesman will get the shower any cheaper than you can, I normally add a 10% markup on equipment that I supply."
