How much does a recessed shower shelf cost?

We are having the bathroom retiled shortly and I would like a recessed shelf built into the shower wall. Does it add much to the cost of the job?

Not much for a simple small recess... If you start adding concealed lighting and shelves within the recessed shelf then costs can quickly spiral... especially if new wiring needs to be routed. Whilst a recessed shelf looks good in photos, it typically accumulates water at the base during showers and over a period of time it may lead to mould build up. Best to get this placed away from main shower area or ensure you clean it regularly.

Are you having a tiled niche or a pre-made niche? If tiled, considerstion should be made when picking the tiles as many arent suitable to install for niches. Typically costs would start at £85 for a simple pre made niche to the low hundreds for more comples tilled niches.

It depends of the wall material, size of shelf and any alteration of pipework or electrical. Will require some carpentry and waterproofing. Personally I would charge from £100-£200 extra
