Do handyman services usually incur a call out fee if something needs doing quickly?

"If called out and no work is required then a service charge will incur, this is due to travel and insurance purposes.

If the works carried out, then the cost will be for the works carried out.

All services should have a call out fee, this is due to travel expense, time, etc."

"Yes they do. Unless otherwise stated. Their costs for fuel and time, travelling, insurances etc all has to be covered. Whether they do any work or not. This charge, in my case anyway, usually covers the 1st hour. It's seems that people assume that because we are classed as "Handymen" we are not qualified enough to levy a call out fee? Like a plumber or an electrician well in many cases Handymen are qualified in more trades than just one and can tackle multiple problems rather than you requiring 2 or 3 different trades."

"If client needs job done there and then it’s not necessary to add service fee ? But that’s my opinion some Big contractors will charge you service fee"

"No, you pay only if the job is carried out. It shouldn't be necessary to pay anyone just to come out, that would be like asking tradesmen to pay for bids to win jobs"

"Generally yes, if its a quick job, under a hour then typically it will come under a call out fee charge. Understand if you are calling the person out, you are paying for their time, fuel costs etc."

"Shouldn’t be a call out fee if job can be done right then and there but job done should be paid"

"Myself being a handyman don’t require call out charge. Hopefully it’s a job that can be rectified immediately. The charge for the job will incur the fuel and time."
