"I would recommend getting an Electrician out to replace damaged socket. The switch has sustained damage with the fault and could cause arcing inside the socket."

"Hi, if you unplug the floor lamp as the fault sounds like it lies there, leave the router plugged in if its ok, but you will need a new double socket outlet installed and the circuit testing incase there any underlying issues with the circuit"

"Sounds like a short. Possibly it has melted inside from what you are saying. I would recommend replacing that ASAP"

"I would not plug any thing into faulty socket try to feed from another socket until you have faulty one changed"

"yes you should jane, in the short term i think you may want to use an extension lead from another socket, but i would opt to get the socket replaced as soon as possible, we do not know if the socket is safe or the wiring feeding to it"

"The short answer is No.
The short in the cable must have broken the internals of the socket preventing it from being switched off, therefore not being able to isolate any item that is plugged into the socket in the case of an emergency.
Hope this clarifies the question."

"I've just changed someone's double socket locally with similar issue.... It was caused by damp.... The inside of the socket was completely blue.... (Corroded) just bought replacement changed it over... Fyi the cables were completely fine no bluey colours or stickiness"
