Domestic wiring checks

Is there an easy way of telling whether my house needs rewiring? I suspect the electrics are quite old.

"Hi, the best option will be to get a EICR (electrical installation condition report), but it might even not be required, as the electrician could tell you just by assessing visually the installation."

"By turning off all the power to the property. Then unscrewing 2 or 3 sockets from the wall in various places ... "aswel as switches " . . Sending pictures by email to any electrical company. . Should advise you whether or not your property is in need of a rewire 👍"

"Yes to have EICar report carried out, a insulation resistance test of the houses circuits will quickly tell if the installation is safe for continued use or if it will need rewiring"

"Hi
This is possible to check the health of current wiring system but in order to do this, there are certain tests the electrician needs to carry out on existing installation which could tell whether the wiring has deteriorated and is there any fault that could result in potential problems.
I hope it helps"

"An electrical installation condition report is the easiest way. That will let you know the condition of your electrical system and wether it is still safe for use. EICR’s are typically £100-£150 depending on the size of the property."

"Their might be a sticker on the fuse board with the last and next test date on you can also tell be the type of protection in the fuse board
If the fuse carriers are rewireable e.g you need to use fuse wire to repair then odds on it will need a rewire"

"the simplest answer honestly is to ask for an EICR bev . If you look at the fuseboard where the meters are, is an old type with rewirable fuses and not circuit breakers. Can you see the cables? are they white or grey, then you maybe could get away with a fuseboard change. Are switches and sockets cracked or swowing burn marks on the socket fronts? These are some of the indicators. An EICR should be ÂŁ100 to ÂŁ150 but this will give you a true answer of the condition.
