Do I need an extraction fan?

Can I just open my bathroom window for showering or do I need an extractor fan? How can I tell which would suffice for my bathroom/shower?

"You can just open a window but this will allow cold air in as well as letting damp air out. The cold air will make the bathroom walls cold and increase the condensation and mould, always be sure to close the window soon after showering.
An extract fan must have backdraft shutters (a one way valve that allows air out but not cold air in) this will get rid of damp air which will be replaced by warm air from the rest of the house, keeping the bathroom warm & dry."
