Cracked screed on floor. How to prepare for carpet

We are renovating a downstairs room that has a lino floor. When we took the skirting boards off and lifted the edge of the lino we found that the concrete didn’t go all the way to the walls ( 1 inch gap all the way round) and the gaps appear to be filled with loose material. When our radiator was fitted the concrete on the floor broke and we found it was only about 1cm thick. Do we need to get the whole floor re-done before replacing skirting and getting carpets fitted or is this a quick fix for any cracks or holes we find?

"Hi Rebecca
You could fill the perimeter with a rapid floor screed and then the smaller cracks with a feather finish screed.
If the whole floor sounds hollow you may need to uplift and screed the whole floor again as it may have blown from the slab Concrete base ."

"What you need to do is to break up any loose latex as it appears they have used a water based latex and the mix has been done incorrectly. Apply Stop Gap 400 filler or feather finish (also a filler)."

"If it’s only carpet getting fitted you can pay the fitter to glue the grippers as the concrete floor is to soft for nailing and it will be fine and cost effective or you may have to re screed the floor which you can’t nail into anyway with out cracking so be back in same boat best to just glue the grippers"

"1cm is no where near enough the concrete sub base should be at least 100 mm thick if you have enough space you could fill the floor with liquid screed to 25 mm without chippings. More with chippings This may help otherwise would need to be dug out and made thicker. to be honest, a big can of worms"

"my main concern would be what caused it otherwise i worry about this unless its very large. in that case i would re screed with self level"

"You need infill the gaps around by screed and make self leveling screed on top of this room."

"If it is just a small gap around the whole floor then a simple application of feather can put this write and is very quick to set."

"You could use some self levelling if it really bad but honestly if your putting down Carpet with an underlay your probably wasting your money as once the carpet is down you won’t be able to tell.
Hope this helps"

"best of to have the floor latex screeded, to level the floor and fill any cracks for the best outcome. if the cracks are serious may need to apply some metal ties between the cracks to prevent them from cracking any further. before latexing the floor"
