How to lay vinyl flooring over floorboards

The floorboards in our back bedroom are uneven and gappy, and I'd like to put vinyl down over the top. Does it need ply or hardboard first or can it go straight on?

"Hi
You would need to fit 6mm plywood over the entire area prior to fitting any vinyl.
Otherwise you risk the uneven, sharp/abrasive edges of the floorboards damaging and reducing the length of time your vinyl will last."

"First you must make sure the floorboards are securely fix down, if not screw them down or fix a 5mm layer of plywood over them and then glue the vinal on to it, that way it lasts."

"Always use underlay. Check the floor before, for vinyl flooring you need straight and clean floor, if it’s possible to remove old flooring and if it’s not level to put first self leveling after that vinil flooring."
