Is tiling more expensive than laminate flooring?

We are renovating our kitchen floor and cannot decide between tiles and laminate. Which is cheaper to have fitted? Best one for a kitchen?

I’d personally go for porcelain tiles if you’re doing a proper renovation and expect to stay with the floor for many years.

They cost more initially, but they’re waterproof, extremely hard-wearing, easy to clean and much less vulnerable to spills, dog claws, muddy shoes or heavy kitchen traffic. Porcelain is particularly good.

Laminate wins on initial cost and comfort. It is quicker to install, warmer underfoot and can look very good. If you choose laminate, I’d use at least an AC4-rated water-resistant/waterproof kitchen laminate, rather than inexpensive standard laminate.

Example: 20 m² kitchen

Allowing roughly 10% waste, I’d budget approximately:

Laminate: £700–£1,300 fitted
Porcelain tiles: £1,100–£2,000 fitted

YES!! By far! Tiles and tile fitting are nearly triple the cost of laminate flooring for supply and fitting. You also have other aspects to consider. If the subfloor is wooden planks, you need a decoupling membrane (roughly £10pm²) to stop the grout cracking once laid.

Hi Luke , personally I would go for tiles , tile will last longer in a busy area, eg kitchens , but can be more money to start with , but will be better in long run , incase of leaks . Or water damage , as tiles probably laid will last

Hi mate . 
Yes personally I’d stay away from laminate flooring in any areas liable to wet . Laminate will easily warp . Ceramic tiles never a problem done correctly but a tad more expensive in the short term .
