ceiling bungalow extension

Can we raise the ceiling so that it is pointed and put sky lights in a bungalow? The extension has a pointed roof already, so we wanted to raise the ceilings and add so sky lights but only in that section? Any idea if this can be done and a rough cost?

"Hi it would depend on the trusses , if it is a cut roof with minimum 200 x 50 mm roof joists that’s a starting point , but also it could involve moving pipes , electric , re insulating, it’s not as straight forward as people think
If it’s a standard FINK truss then no not without removing the roof section and creating a vaulted ceiling cut roof ."

"Yes this could definitely be done and I have seen it done , the cost would vary from builder , amd the job would need to be assessed and a quote would then be drawn up to come to agreements"

"Yes, it is generally possible to raise the ceiling and create a pointed or vaulted ceiling in a bungalow, particularly in the extension area. Adding skylights to bring in natural light is also a viable option. However, it is important to note that the feasibility and cost of such modifications can vary based on several factors, including the structural integrity of the existing roof, local building regulations, and the specific design requirements.

To get a more accurate estimate of the cost and feasibility, it is recommended to consult with a professional architect or structural engineer. They can assess your bungalow's current structure, evaluate the potential modifications, and provide you with a detailed cost estimate based on your specific project requirements. They will consider factors such as the extent of structural modifications, materials needed, labor costs, and any additional considerations like planning permissions or building regulations compliance.

Engaging professionals will ensure that the proposed modifications meet safety standards, comply with local regulations, and are structurally sound. They can also provide guidance on design options, energy efficiency, and maximizing natural light through skylights or other means.

Keep in mind that the cost can vary significantly depending on the complexity of the project, the size of the area to be modified, the quality of materials chosen, and other customization factors."

"It can be done, would probably involve redirecting plumbing and electrics. Price would depend on size but probably looking at around least £6000"

"Yes can be done quite easy , depending and about wich skylight you want ( dimension)
The price can be for a good skylight and quite big with 2 openings on side ( electric ) 3000 plus another 500 .
Labour , roof and skylight somewhere 9000 - 10000 if is big the skylight.
Standard one 1400 by 800 with everything can be 6000"
