How much to remove a ‘fake’ chimney

We have a fake brick chimney stack on our property which was apparently required for planning regulations when it was built twenty years ago. The pointing and flashing are now in a poor state of repair and we wondered how much it would cost to remove it as it serves no purpose. Also would we need to get planning permission to remove it?

    Timber for roof shingles

How long does the timber below roof shingles tend to last? Does it depend on the type of wood? And if so, could you give me an idea of what applies to each option? What are the pros and cons of each type of underlaying timber for roof shingles? Thanks for your time!

Cement instead of lead flashing around chimney

There's no lead flashing around my chimney, just cement. Is this OK? I haven't noticed any problems, but I thought all joins/edges had lead flashing.

    Semi detached roof

I live in a semi detached house. My neighbour recently got their half of the roof retiled. Their roofer has tiled their half up to the boundary of our property, leaving a couple inch gap and a partition strip fully on my side. Surely this can't be right. What is the correct way for the joint between the semis to be done? I'm assuming it was done this way as it was easier to remove full tiles but that's not my problem.
