Can you plaster over wallpaper?

Question

One person told me it’s fine, another said it’ll just peel off. Has anyone actually done it and had it hold up?

No not really, eventually over time the paper will fall off the wall together with the plaster.  Better to strip the wall paper from the walls, then skim the walls.

The only wall paper that can be plastered over is lincrusta.. any other walls paper as when they get wet it will bubble causing cracking to the plastered area

No you cannot plaster over wallpaper. The plaster will not bond properly to paper and will crack and come away at some point

No, you cannot plaster over wall paper. The plaster will not adhere to wall paper, the moisture from the plasterer will dampen the wall paper and cause it to peel. The plaster will eventually crack and come away from the wall.

I have seen colleagues do it, but personally i wouldn't.
Paper may peel off with the weight of plaster or the old paste can suck the moisture out of the paint after plaster.
Do it properly and strip walls.

You should always strip wallpaper use a steamer to make life easier
