Can you drink softened water?

We're thinking of getting a water softener installed but someone mentioned the softened water isn't suitable for drinking. Is that right? Do you need to have a separate tap for drinking then?

"Hi there
Softened water isn't suitable for drinking. Anyone who fits it got to have at least one tap in the property not softened for drinking water."

"Yes you can but I always recommend to add a water filter next to the water softener."
