"I would make sure all knots are sealed before priming and undercoating your dado rail and wood panelling, light sand then finish coat All good diy store can mix paint to your specified colour

Hope this helps"

"Yes - you will need to use a knotting solution on the exposed knots if it’s bare then use a primer."

"Yes, it is recommended to prime dado rail before painting it. Priming helps to create a smooth and even surface for the paint to adhere to, and it also helps to prevent the paint from soaking into the material, which can result in uneven color and texture.

Before priming the dado rail, make sure to clean and sand the surface to remove any dirt, debris, or rough spots. This will ensure that the primer and paint adhere properly and create a smooth finish.

Choose a primer that is suitable for the material of your dado rail, such as a primer for wood or for plaster. Apply the primer in thin, even coats, using a brush or roller. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the paint.

By properly priming your dado rail before painting, you can ensure a high-quality finish that will look great and last for years to come."
