Architect charges

How do architects charge for their services? Is it by the hour or project? And should I pay up front or at the end?

"It is either by the hour, fixed price, or on a percentage of the build cost basis. We personally prefer fixed price, so you know exactly what it will cost and what you will receive. It is standard practice to pay up to 30% up front with the rest at the end of the stage hire for. Such as if you only need help gaining planning permission, you would pay up to 30% upfront and the rest upon everything being complete ready to be submitted to planning."

"It depends on the practice and scope of works. For extensions we usually agree a fixed price split in 2 separate phases (Planning and Building regs). After all agreed and documents signed we then charge 30% when starting the job/ surveying the property and the remaining 70% when ready to submit the drawings."

"Hi Abdullah this is really dependent on the practice you choose some take the payment up front and other take a 50% deposit and remaining 50% is taken on completion of the drawings.

Calculation of fee: Dependent again on the practice you choose to go for some work at 5% mark so you would need to express the construction and build costs. Then other architects will price according to that calculation and others have set rates for the job."

"Hi

We agree a fixed price, and break down into section, you ask me to proceed and will survey the propose property, draft design the extension and any internal alteration, edit as you require, then prepare to submit for planning permission, then ask for the planning section of the fixed price, you pay and i submit,

Cheers
