Question

Just how good are smart appliances? I’ve heard a lot about the internet of things and how with more and more connected devices, we can have more control and ultimately simplify everything in life. Is this a fair assessment? Are smart appliances beneficial or a waste of money? I’d love to hear the honest thoughts of a professional on the matter. Thanks!

Are you thinking of Home automation and Nest or Hive and doing stuff such as controlling your boiler and CCTV and security lighting remotely from your mobile whilst you are away from home. If this is the case then I can tell it is not a waste of money and it is the future. As an electrician I have actually fallen behind in this particular field but I intend to undergo training in home automation. It is a relatively new field which is only going to expand and is definitely not a waste of money.

Here are some cool things you can do with smart appliances: Get an alert if your refrigerator door is open Look inside of your refrigerator without opening the door and wasting energy each time a family member wants a snack.

Depends on your budget and what you want to control with your smart phone/table or Alexia.
You can automate literally everything in your house, Luton & Control 4 are the top automation set up but it will cost you lot of money, you can buy devises from Amazon  to control, light, heating, speaker etc.. for very few pounds.
