    Resolving water ingress through low underfloor air vents.

    How do I make a gully type feature to prevent water entering my very low underfloor air vents? The builder suggested digging a trench, placing a brick fort around the two vents, then filling the trench with pebbles or dirt. He mentioned a membrane, only I can't remember which type. Please can you advise as water currently goes under the floor through the air vents. (Old Edwardian property). Thanks so much.
