  • Loft Conversion

Hello, I’m in the stages of planning a loft conversion. It’s not a huge loft and will probably only fit a desk and will be used for storage. I was advised to install two velux windows as to start with so at least we can get some light. I will need separate staircase going into the loft, for which there is space to do so - would I need an architect to draw all this up?

How do I remove skirting boards around pipework/radiators?

Hi all, We have moved into a new property and are in the process of renovation currently – which includes removing the old skirting boards to replace with newer style skirting boards instead. Our main concern with removing the skirting boards is the radiator pipes that intersect with them and some micro pipes running along the boards. How can we remove the skirting boards safely without causing any damage to the piping work? Any suggestions would be great to hear about!

Do you need to use trunking when installing a new UK plug socket and plaster?

I have added a new double socket above an original one, and now it's time to plaster in the gap (which was used to get cables in), but do I need to trunk the wires before plaster them? I get mixed answers on this topic. And if so, what sort of trunking should use. Thank you!

How do I refit slates to my roof?

I have had some slate tiles fall from my roof recently due to weather and general ageing. Some of the tiles are barely damaged so would be reusable and I will find some replacement for any others. What would I need to set the slates back on the roof most effectively? Would it usually be by using cement or some other adhesives to keep them in place correctly? I would like to resolve this myself if possible.

How do I remove and replace a toilet seat?

Hello I have a damaged bathroom toilet seat which I need to remove to be replaced. I remember from previous houses’ toilets that there are usually screws fixing it into the toilet unit itself, but I don’t know how to reach this section to unscrew the seat. Is there any method that will apply to toilet seats? And am I right to assume that the new seat can just be screwed into the same sections of the toilet unit too? Or is there any additional steps to include?

What should I attach a washing line to?

I’ve nailed one side to the house brick wall. Will the other side be ok nailed to a fence? I will use it to dry large towels and bedding out there so I need to make sure it can withstand the weight.

    Realistic carpet removal cost

Need to get new carpets installed, but the quotes I've got for just removing the carpets from the whole house seem a bit excessive. I'm in a 4 bedroom detached and they want £1000 to take it out and away. Is this reasonable? It just seems a bit too much to me, but I'd like to know what experts think about this
