Will my roof be able to bare the weight of solar panels?

How do I know that a roof can manage the weight of solar panels? Is there a way I can do this DIY or should I hire a professional?

"I would definitely hire a professional for this, and any type of work on a house roof. Accidentally damaging your roof could quickly become expensive. A professional will have liability insurance for any potential issue/damage as a result of carrying out the work.

I professional will also have the correct equipment (and PPE) to ensure that the job is carried out with no intentional disturbance to your roof structure.

Hope this helps"

"On average, solar panels and mounting equipment weigh 2-4 lbs per square foot (10-20 kg per square meter), which is usually within the acceptable limits of your roof. However, one has to take into account the point loads, as installers often want to minimize the number of mounting locations in order to minimize the risk of leaks. If the installer does not distribute the weight optimally, the point loads can be considerable.
Use a professional unless you are highly competent"

"most UK homes have roofs with a pitch between 30-50° which is suitable for solar panels.
Even a roof that doesn’t match the ideal requirements can still be suitable for solar panels.
A full survey will need to be completed by a structural engineer to confirm the compatibility of the solar panels."

"Ideally, always look for a specialist in case of doubt. All companies that carry out the installation are responsible for this analysis and civil for the execution. In most cases the panel has a weight of 14kg/m²."

"The roof should be able to take them, as I think there is a seventeen per cent dead load allowance, but the company installing should assess beforehand"
