Why does my toilet have a really loud flush?

What makes a toilet especially loud while flushing? Any ideas as to how I can fix this and should I do it DIY?

"In many cases an old toilet system would not have been fitted with a downpipe from the outlet to the reservoir if you take the top off the reservoir see where the water comes into the reservoir to fill you need a pipe from there into reservoir might be easier to buy new filler"

"Hi, one cause could be that the level of the water in the cistern is too high in which case the ball inlet valve can be adjusted to set the water level. The flusher unit could be adjusted as well."

"if your cold feed is mains fed you can get a high pitched whistle noise so a cotton and preedy valve would need to be fitted reducing the high pressure to low pressure"
