What's the difference between skimming vs plastering?

I keep seeing both terms used but not sure if they’re the same thing or not?

"Plastering is the term used to plaster is what we do weather it’s rendering outside or inside work applying plaster to the walls, skimming is still plastering but skimming is the term used for applying just the thin top coat of plaster to the walls"

"Skimming is the most commonly known part but it's only one aspect of plastering.
It is the top coat that gets painted once dry. Plastering is the trade as a whole which includes skimming, rendering, floor screeding and a few others"

"Skimming and plastering are one and the same but Skimming refers to the finishing (final) coat whereas plastering can refer to all dubbing out and undercoats and plastering entirely"

"Skimming and Plastering are essentially the same thing.

However, Skimming is 1 method of Plastering whereas the term Plastering would refer to all aspects of Plastering Internally and Externally.

Hope that helps.
