What qualifications should an electrician have?

I need an electrician for some rewiring work and want to make sure they're properly qualified. What certifications should I look for, and is there a way to verify them?

"Their membership of a trade body (e.g. NIC/NAPIT) is probably the quickest way to verify, but not completely watertight. For the electrician's personal qualifications I would be looking for a level 2/3 diploma, and ideally a Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installation and if they are going to be giving certification, the level 3 2391-52. Having said that, qualifications alone do not guarantee anything!"

"First of all; Make sure they have a level 3 nvq. Then they will need 2391-52 or equivalent. Makesure they're apart of NAPIT or NICEIC."

"Qualified Electricians should have NVQ level 3 with a proven cert and an AM2.

They must be registered with a board and to carry out certain jobs they must have approved contractor, landlord scheme and a competent persons scheme"

"You should be able to find them online (Napit or NICEIC website)
It proves they are holding the neccessary qualifications and have the required insurances"

"If the electrician pulls in new cables, he should issue an EIC for the job and notify the building control.

So 2 documents expected
- EIC
- Building control notification"
