Universal beam Vs column

Should I have a universal beam or universal column installed for structural support in my property? Which is the better option and why? In what circumstances does a universal beam suit or a universal column suit? Thanks.

"Hi Adam,

Universal beams and columns are both very different components of a steel structure. Whilst beams are laid horizontal on the “x axis” bearing a horizontal load, columns are vertical on the “y axis” and bear the vertical load.

Be sure to select the correct component for the job. Better still, appoint a component engineer to calculate all loads and appropriately sized components for you."

"They are both different beams are used to spread the load horizontally and a column is for supporting weight directly above it."
