Tree that's lost all of its leaves

My tree lost all of its leaves very early this year. Do you think this is from the drought rather than disease? Are there easy ways to tell?

Without knowing exactly when the tree dropped leaves it would be hard to give a definitive answer upwever many less mature trees have suffered the effects of the drought earlier this year. If the tree was diseased it would likely have other signs as well, large areas of dieback/deadwood, bark decay, fruiting bodies etc.

Yea it’s possible with the heat with have had this year , trees have shed there leaves abit earlier than usual, but it would be advised to keep an eye on it to make sure in has recovered

Likely due to the weather this year. You could also look at the leaves themselves to see if there’s any noticeable markings(diseases). Hope that helps.

What species of tree is it and to be honest it’s because of climate change as well that even oak trees That should be last to lose its leaves are now one of the first trees nearly nearly losing their leaves a month and a half early than what they should be so might not be a disease could just be normal would need a tree survey carried out

Hi Patrick, 

If it was early in the year (April - June) it is unlikely that drought killed your tree - I would instead look toward fungal or bacterial infections, or insect infestation on or in the plant, and around the roots.
