"Yes/ No removing large branches depending on size won’t harm the tree. But again depending on size/ amount of them could effect the balance of the tree, depending on what kind of tree it is"

"It depends on how much is removed and how the work is carried out.

Removing a few large branches can harm a tree if it results in excessive pruning, unbalanced weight distribution, or large wounds that the tree struggles to compartmentalise. However, selective, justified removal to reduce risk to a structure like a conservatory is often appropriate and can be done without causing long-term harm.

Good practice would involve:

Removing only the branches that present a clear risk

Making correct pruning cuts back to suitable growth points

Avoiding over-reduction or “stripping” one side of the crown

Keeping the overall pruning proportionate to the size and species of the tree

The aim should be risk reduction, not cosmetic reshaping. In some cases, a light reduction of several branches is better than removing one or two very large limbs.

It’s also important to check whether the tree is protected by a TPO or Conservation Area before any work is carried out.

Done properly and in line with recognised standards, removing problem branches over a conservatory does not have to harm the tree."
