"When decorating, always start from the top and work downwards.
Paint emulsion walls before glossing woodwork."

"The correct order is to paint the walls with emulsion first and then finish with gloss (or satin/eggshell) on the skirting. This is standard professional practice. Emulsion is applied first because it is easier to touch up and it doesn’t matter if it slightly overlaps onto the skirting, as this will be covered later by the gloss. Painting the skirting last gives a clean, sharp edge and a neat, professional finish."

"Hi. First you prime the wood with the undercoat and then you use the top coat, in your case gloss. For the walls it depends if there were already painted with emulsion or just been plastered. If painted before than you can go ahead and use the emulsion after cleaning the walls from any cobwebs etc. If not then use the primer first before painting."

"You should paint emulsion first, then gloss.

. Emulsion on walls and ceilings first, Easier to cut in roughly.l, Any splashes or brush marks on woodwork can be cleaned or sanded before glossing.
. Gloss (or satin/eggshell) on skirting, doors, and trim last, Gives a clean, sharp finish. Avoids getting emulsion on freshly glossed woodwork."

"On skirting boards you paint by priming bare wood and then applying an undercoat followed by a gloss or satinwood. Some paint products can top coat and undercoat at the same time.
Emulsion paint such as vinyl matts are applied to walls and ceilings and come in different levels of sheen. A diamond matt has the wipeability of a silk while at the same time offering the flatness of a matt. Product suitability is an important part of a job and its eventual outcome."
