Shortening a wooden bedframe

How easy is it to shorten a wooden bedframe? We need it shortening to fit better in a small bedroom. Is it just a case of dismantling and taking a bit off the two long sections of the frame?

"Yes , but you will lose the fittings on the end which has to redone accurately as it was done in the factory otherwise it will not align properly and could be unstable"

"Not as easy as you would think , the problem is every bed has different fittings to hold it together if you cut it you might loose the way it fitted together and have use screws or bolts
to hold ends, make sure it is still stable"

"Yes you can
Cut to correct length drill 2 holes in each long section and same place in frame cut pieces of dowelling rod to fit and glue each side Once fitted use a screw to add extra strength"

"Depending on the fitting, if it’s a wood frame you could cut off from the bottom as there’s less weight and fix with metal brackets. Make sure you can get a mattress to fit first!"

"It is it possible you might have to drill some deeper holes from where the attached end boards goes go is it possible you can send some pictures"

"If you shorten the centre sections of the bed you will need to re-drill and bolt them back to the end section of the bed… also you may struggle to get a mattress to fit the short size unless you source a shorter mattress and cut the bed down to suit."

"That all depends on the joints at the end you might need to remake them. Although yes that is the simplest method but I’d recommend getting a carpenter to do it for you. Regards, David."
