Retaining wall cost

Our garden slopes quite steeply and we want a retaining wall built to level off a section for a patio. It'd probably be about 6 metres long and 600mm high. Any idea on cost?

"if materials supplied about £1500, then cost for the footing to put in maybe another £250"

"A retaining wall for a patio area at around 6 metres long and 600mm high would usually fall somewhere in the region of £2,000–£5,000+ depending on the type of wall being built, access to the garden, drainage requirements, and ground conditions. The biggest cost differences normally come down to the material choice — for example timber sleepers are generally cheaper, while concrete block with render, brickwork, or natural stone can increase costs significantly. Even at 600mm high, proper foundations and drainage behind the wall are important to prevent movement and water pressure issues over time. If the garden has difficult access, heavy excavation, or requires a lot of spoil removal, that can also push the price up quite quickly."

"Depends on materials and wall thickness really, if the back is built in trench blocks and 4 inch blocks if would be bit cheaper and faster but if its all bricks? 600mm high is 8 course and 6000mm is 28ish bricks long =224 bricks for ech skin of brickwork."

"Hi. As an alternative to a brick wall you can use railway sleepers bolted together with 8 inch Timberlock blocks. Very strong , looks good and should be cheaper than a brick wall ? Stagger the sleepers on top of each other for more stability.
Thank you.

"Hi Jackie,

Assuming we would need to dig and poor a footing I think a safe estimate would be £2700 for a brickwork retaining wall.

"As every garden and ground condition is different, we would need to carry out a site visit first in order to assess the slope, access, drainage requirements, and the most suitable retaining wall option for the area.

We would then be happy to provide you with a free no-obligation quotation following the visit."

"Depending if the footing is already there if so then for the brickwork/block work will take two days costing around 700- 800 pound without material costs"
