Replacing solid bannisters with rope

I want to use rope instead of conventional bannisters on our stairs, to make it look characterful. But I'm not sure this would meet building regs. Does it matter?

"From a safety aspect it would not pass regulation , if you used a pipe and wound rope around it for the look that would be ok. You need a solid hand rail if you trip or slip to hold on to."

"This is possible but you will need a hand rail on the o t her side so the rope banister is for show only, don’t need building regulations unless a listed building

Hope this helps"

"Hi this does not meet building regulation as the gap within the spindles should not exceed more than 100 mm rope is to open"

"yes, there are some Strick guidelines on this, a rope would not suffice but its your home, and what you want comes above guidelines. until you want to sell your home"
